The Achieve Community Charter School is fiercely committed to cultivating intellectual curiosity and providing students with daily rigorous college-preparatory instruction set to high standards. Our teachers are provided with targeted ongoing professional development and regularly analyze student data to drive daily instruction and long-term planning. We ensure that every student Achieves.
ACHIEVE understands that a positive school culture facilitates and adds to strong academic performance. We foster a college-bound culture that builds in students a sense of empowerment and intrinsic motivation to learn by explicitly teaching and constantly reinforcing ACHIEVE student values: DREAMS (Diligence, Respect, Empathy, Appropriate self-expression, Model Citizenship and Self-control). Instruction matters greatly, but it is only truly maximized when students feel an empowered sense of purpose and desire to learn. This kind of value of, and curiosity for, knowledge must be developed within an atmosphere of safety, routines and respect.
ACHIEVE Academy schools serve a very vulnerable population where the majority of our children are growing up in “extreme poverty,” (i.e. meaning our students’ families are generally earning less than $10,000 per year). According to the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) study (a survey of exposure to trauma events such as death of a family member, violence, and sexual abuse) our students are exposed to trauma at a rate four to eight times greater than that of the general population. This affects our children’s cognitive and social development. ACHIEVE has established an integrated, trauma-informed intervention system in its schools designed to proactively identify the needs of every student and matches them with tailored supports and resources. ACHIEVE Roads to Success uses academic and social emotional learning data to tier each student and develop an individualized learning plan that utilizes a combination of instructional remediation, such as small group instruction, and social emotional learning resources, such as therapeutic counseling.
ACHIEVE uses a variety of assessments to keep our finger on the pulse of student learning: a combination of daily, weekly, monthly, biannual and annual tools allow leadership and teachers to adjust practice regularly and efficiently. School leadership and teachers set student growth objectives (goals) in the beginning of the year. Goals are tiered by student readiness level and regular on-going analysis is conducted to measure progress towards goals.
Achieve Community Charter School provide families and the community with a wide variety of opportunities to support student learning. Schools regularly host parent education workshops, dialogue with community leaders and door-to-door outreach campaigns. ACHIEVE also partners with social service agencies to help stabilize our most vulnerable families.
To raise student Achievement every minute must be used strategically. ACHIEVE structures its schools so that human capital can improve student outcomes.
